The EPA mandated Renovation, Repair, and Painting rule pertains to anyone or company that will be performing work that disturbs lead-based paint in homes, apartments, childcare facilities and schools built before 1978.
The new EPA rules go into effect April 22, 2010. The potential penalties for not following the regulations are stiff. Contractors can be fined up to $32,500.00 per violation, per day. If lead is present it must be handled by specific methods and certain records need to be kept and stored for at least 3 years. We have EPA certified personnel on staff and can meet all the requirements. There are few exclusions from the rule. In general they are: The work only effects components that do not contain lead-based paint. Interior work disturbs less than 6 square feet of painted surface. Exterior work disturbs less than 20 square feet. Or the work is considered to be an emergency. The EPA rule is 40 CFR 745.
